EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF OYNMCC

OFFICIAL EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF OYNM_CC

The Omo Yoruba Nimi Cultural Contest (OYNMCC) is a structured educational and cultural development initiative aimed at promoting Yoruba heritage among students through competitions, cultural exhibitions, indigenous skills acquisition, and the establishment of long-term Yoruba cultural clubs in schools.

The initiative is built around three major categories:

  • Cognitive Arts (Yoruba Quiz)
  • Traditional Skills Exhibition (Ise Owo ile  Wa)
  • Creative Arts/Talent Exhibition

Beyond the competition itself, the project introduces the OMO YORUBA CULTURAL CLUBS (OY_CC) as a sustainability framework that will continue cultural education and engagement within schools throughout the academic year.

 BACKGROUND OF THE INITIATIVE

In recent years, there has been growing concern over the gradual decline in the use of Yoruba language and the increasing cultural disconnection among younger generations.

Many students now:

Exhibit limited proficiency in the Yoruba language.

Possess little knowledge of Yoruba history and values.

Show declining interest in indigenous arts and traditional skills.

Lack structured platforms for cultural expression and talent development.

This cultural decline presents an urgent need for deliberate educational and cultural interventions capable of preserving indigenous identity while positively engaging students.

The OYNMCC initiative is therefore conceived as a strategic cultural and educational intervention aimed at restoring cultural pride and consciousness among students through structured learning, competitions, mentorship, creativity, and practical engagement.
